3 Best ADCs for Zilean: Jinx, Kog’Maw and Jhin

Three marksmen make different demands on Zilean's speed and revival. Choose for the damage you can deliver, then plan how to survive the return.

Zilean raises his hands inside glowing blue clock faces, with long blue hair and a beard flowing around his robes.
    Riot Games

An ADC reviving beside two waiting opponents may not get another attack. Chronoshift gives teammates time to intervene, but it also gives the enemy time to prepare a stun for the return.

Jinx is our first pick among the best ADCs for Zilean when the team can protect her long enough to secure a takedown. Kog’Maw suits fights where he can keep attacking during Bio-Arcane Barrage. Jhin is the alternative for short trades and ranged catches. These three recommendations follow their kits and the situations below; the order is editorial, not statistical.

Zilean’s three partners offer different ways to use a speed buff and time bought by Chronoshift. The comparison assumes normal PC bot lane and a farming ADC who can still reach useful damage after the support commits his spells. Riot's 26.18 notes.

Choose the damage pattern you can support

ADCWhat Zilean helps them doReason to choose someone else
JinxReach a first takedown and keep attackingYour team cannot keep enemies away from her
Kog’MawSpend more of Bio-Arcane Barrage in attack rangeYou need regular healing or immediate defensive control
JhinDeliver short trades and connect ranged catchesYour team needs sustained damage into a durable front line

These are farming ADC pairings. Zilean plays support; none requires the carry to surrender their minion income.

Chronoshift does not restart a fight

Zilean has to cast R before lethal damage arrives. The protective mark lasts five seconds. If the target would die during that period, they enter stasis for three seconds and then return with health restored. The amount depends on R’s rank and Zilean’s ability power; a full health bar is not guaranteed. These are separate stages, not eight seconds of uninterrupted protection.

The ADC cannot attack or move during stasis. Opponents can use those three seconds to approach, save a stun for the return, or turn on Zilean. They can also refuse to trigger the revival: stop hitting the marked carry, wait for the rune to expire, then resume. Cast R for an impending lethal hit, not merely because your ADC has lost some health.

Before the ADC commits, identify who can stay near them if R triggers. A teammate who can threaten the waiting enemy makes a very different revival from one abandoned in the river. Zilean can slow an approaching attacker or threaten a double bomb, but he must remain alive and close enough to help. A marked ADC can also take the speed boost and leave; there is no obligation to trigger R.

Jinx: the best first choice for a fight that can turn

Jinx balances above a ruined city with long blue braids and a shark-shaped rocket launcher on her shoulder.
Jinx’s blue braids stretch across the city ruins beneath her rocket launcher.

Zilean can justify committing R to Jinx when a few more attacks could finish an enemy and activate Get Excited! Her passive grants movement and attack speed when an eligible target she recently damaged dies or is destroyed. Reviving is not a trigger. Even if someone dies during her stasis, the passive’s recent-damage condition still matters. Riot’s current Jinx kit and normal passive record.

Jinx’s first wave is less forgiving than that teamfight promise sounds. A rocket can hit an opponent beside their minions or help contest the push, but every extra splash also changes the wave. Add a bomb to repeated rocket attacks and you can end up farming far from your turret with little mana left. Use the extra range for a specific trade or a deliberate push.

Once Zilean has both Q and W, a double-bomb stun can give Jinx time to place Flame Chompers across the enemy’s retreat. The traps need time to arm, so place them while the target is controlled rather than expecting an immediate rescue under an attacker already on top of you. If Zilean misses the second bomb, keep the traps for the return trade and back off. Walking into minigun range to justify his missed spell only gives the opponents a better target.

At dragon, hitting the opponent your team can pin down is usually more useful than running around them to find the enemy ADC. Zilean’s speed lets Jinx adjust her angle and, once a takedown happens, follow the retreat. Keep the first few attacks close to teammates who can help if R triggers. The revival becomes much less useful once those teammates have left.

Pick Jinx when another teammate can stand between her and the threat. Reject this pairing when you are relying on Zilean alone to stop several attackers from reaching her. He can interfere with their approach, but landing two bombs takes more setup than this draft may allow.

Kog’Maw needs useful attacks, not a long walk

Kog'Maw lowers his armored head toward a bright green stream of corrosive fluid in a dark forest.
Green fluid lights the ground beneath Kog’Maw’s armored head.

Bio-Arcane Barrage is the reason to choose Kog’Maw here. His W lasts eight seconds, adds attack range, and adds target-max-health magic damage to his attacks. The attacks still have their normal physical damage, so this is not an all-physical damage partnership.

Let Zilean help with the approach before spending W. Once a target is within the range the buff will give you, activate it and attack. If you switch W on beside your turret and then chase through an entire wave, much of those eight seconds goes into walking.

Zilean’s E changes movement speed; it does not directly grant an attack-speed buff. Kog’Maw benefits when the movement effect lets him make an extra attack or avoid being caught. Against an opponent who runs out of range, slowing that opponent may help more than speeding Kog’Maw into an unknown river entrance.

This lane can run out of health before it ever gets a useful fight. Kog’Maw has no dash, and neither partner can repeatedly heal away poke. If the opponent can hit you without entering your attack range, adjust where you collect the wave or take the recall. Staying for level six at critical health may cost more minions than leaving.

After a revival, check whether W is actually available and whether an enemy is in range. Do not assume the eight-second buff has been renewed. If the useful attacks are gone and the nearest opponent can still reach you, accept Zilean’s speed and retreat. Choose Kog’Maw when teammates can keep a reachable target occupied. He is a harder recommendation when he must chase through unwarded terrain to get his first attack.

Jhin makes the lane less dependent on a double bomb

Jhin holds an ornate firearm beside a cracked mirror, wearing a pale mask, cream clothing and gold shoulder armor.
A cracked mirror frames Jhin’s pale mask and gold-trimmed equipment.

Jhin is the alternative when you want damage in short visits rather than a long exchange. Whisper holds four shots, and its fourth shot always critically strikes and adds missing-health physical damage. Zilean can speed him forward to reach that attack, then help him separate from the opponent. It is still a bad trade if Jhin has to pass through a large enemy wave to reach someone healthy enough to retaliate.

Their catch sequence has two possible starting points. If Zilean’s bomb explodes on an enemy champion, its damage can supply the mark for Jhin’s Deadly Flourish root. Merely attaching the bomb has not dealt that damage yet. If Jhin has already rooted a valid marked target, Zilean can aim his bombs at a champion who cannot walk away. W stops at the first champion hit, so a frontliner can block a shot aimed at the marked carry behind them. If that happens, do not walk past the blocker just to deliver your fourth shot.

Zilean need not spend Rewind on every attempt. A single bomb’s damage can let Jhin threaten a root and keep an opponent away from a low-health minion. Whether you pursue the catch depends on Jhin’s bullets and the enemy support’s position. A successful root with no useful follow-up can still be enough to win room to farm.

Jhin’s reload changes what Zilean can expect from a save. If he has spent his shots, or is too far away to use them, keeping him alive does not instantly create Jinx’s continuous attacks. Check ammunition and spell availability when he returns. In some fights he should withdraw and use Curtain Call from a protected position rather than walk back into basic-attack range. Its shots stop on the first enemy champion, too.

Choose Jhin for catches and controlled trades. If your draft already has plenty of ways to start a fight but struggles to kill the enemy front line, the Kog’Maw option answers a different need.

The wave and level-up decisions before R exists

Zilean’s first bomb does magic damage after its fuse; the stun needs a second bomb placed on a unit that already has one. Two bombs landing on different units are not automatically a stun combination. Q prioritizes champions and units already carrying a bomb, but crowded minions still make the actual attachment worth checking. Rewind removes ten seconds from the cooldowns of Zilean’s other basic abilities, Q and E. E can still have cooldown remaining afterward. Rewind does not refresh his ultimate or the ADC’s spells. Riot’s current Zilean kit and normal cooldown data.

Check Zilean’s second skill point before you follow him forward. Q-W offers two bombs but no Time Warp to help you leave; Q-E offers the movement effect without Rewind’s immediate second bomb. Learning the missing spell at level three combines those options. Mana and cooldowns still decide whether the combo is available now.

With a wave approaching your turret, keep the bomb away from low-health minions unless the ADC is ready for the splash. Unexpected damage can ruin their planned last hits. When you need a recall, agree to use the splash to help finish the wave instead. If the opponent can prevent the crash and threaten an all-in, preserving enough health to collect the next wave can matter more than forcing one last trade.

Time In A Bottle can finish an ally’s next level when Zilean has enough stored experience, and he gains the same amount he grants. It cannot be used to grant experience in combat. Take an available transfer during a quiet break, then check the actual level and spent skill point before fighting. Neither player should promise an early ultimate on a particular wave without checking the experience bars. Riot’s passive summary and current extended tooltip.

After Chronoshift, look at the nearest reachable target and your route back to the team. Then check the resource that matters for your pick: Jinx’s chance to secure a qualifying takedown, Kog’Maw’s W, or Jhin’s ammunition and spells. If the next attack requires crossing the same enemy-controlled ground that got you caught, move back toward Zilean and your teammates instead. Do not spend his speed boost running farther from their help.
