16 Best Alistar Skins: Moo Cow Leads the Herd

A bull dressed as a cow beats the golems and tournament armor. Here's how all 16 Alistar skins compare, including the separate Black Alistar Modern edition.

Alistar charges through a broken stone wall with purple fur, long pale horns and shattered chains around his wrists.
    Riot Games

Alistar is already a bull. Putting him in a cow costume should be the laziest possible skin idea, yet the hood, pink udder and cowbell make Moo Cow Alistar our first choice. It treats his huge body as part of the joke instead of finding another way to cover it in armor.

The best Alistar skins either commit to that physical comedy or turn him into a convincing new creature. Elderwood is the best serious alternative, with Blackfrost close behind if you want a colder, more hostile design. Matador deserves a look before you spend anything on the more elaborate options.

This ranking covers all 16 standalone skins in the current PC catalog, checked September 5, 2026. Chromas are excluded; Black Alistar Modern is a separate skin. The order favors character design and worthwhile cosmetic changes, not collector status. Any prices below are dated references, not verified offers in today’s client.

    1. Moo Cow Alistar

Moo Cow Alistar stands at the center in a spotted cow onesie, raising a milk bottle beside Pug'Maw on the right.
His own face pokes through the cow hood. The pink udder makes the costume even less dignified.

The onesie puts a second, much less threatening cow around Alistar. The small pink muzzle on the hood sits above his actual enormous face, and the udder hangs off the belly of a champion built to shoulder people out of the way. That mismatch is better than a shirt with a joke printed on it.

The cowbell is an actual dance feature, not something to infer from this splash. Riot KateyKhaos’s March 2017 developer announcement specified a new dance and recall, sounds for both, and new particles for Pulverize, Trample and Unbreakable Will. The announcement put the skin at 975 RP, subject to change. It did not promise new sounds for every combat ability.

Moo Cow puts some of its best work into an emote you deliberately use. If you never dance, you still get the costume and spell particles, but you’re passing over its most memorable extra. If you want Alistar to look threatening, no amount of cowbell will rescue the pink belly.

The joke belongs to this champion, and the dance lets you perform it.

The best Alistar skins for different tastes

    Rank and skinMain attractionMain compromise
    1. Moo CowCowbell dance and cow onesieDeliberately ridiculous
    2. ElderwoodMoss, wood and stone creatureLess of Alistar’s familiar face
    3. BlackfrostJagged ice and custom effectsSevere rather than playful
    4. MatadorThe bull becomes the bullfighterBase audio and animations
    5. HextechMechanical body and extra animationsLess personality than the costumes

    2. Elderwood Alistar

Elderwood Alistar forms a giant bull of moss, wood and stone, holding a small deer on his open hand.
The deer on his palm gives those enormous hands a surprisingly gentle purpose.

Elderwood makes Alistar’s weight believable in a completely different way. The forearms resemble sections of a tree enclosed in stone, his horns branch outward, and moss softens the hard edges. Instead of an animal wearing heavy equipment, he looks assembled from the forest itself.

The small deer keeps the splash from presenting another angry woodland monster. Showing him hold something fragile gives the same bulk a protective quality. It’s the most sympathetic interpretation of Alistar in the list, without shrinking him or removing his horns.

Riot’s August 2025 PBE post documented new visual effects, sound effects and a recall alongside the model and textures, with an announced price of 1,350 RP. Its final update said no changes were made after the PBE cycle. This is a broader cosmetic package than the older recolors, though it still uses Alistar’s base voice lines.

Elderwood loses to Moo Cow because it sacrifices some of the bull’s expressive face for its creature design. That is an excellent trade if you dislike the mascot costume. An owner of Moo Cow gets a genuinely different character here, rather than a second joke outfit.

    3. Blackfrost Alistar

Blackfrost Alistar occupies the center-right in angular blue ice and dark armor, with an icy Renekton on the left.
Blackfrost builds sharp blue ridges into Alistar’s head and shoulders.

Where Elderwood softens Alistar with moss, Blackfrost keeps adding edges. The ice around his head looks fractured rather than polished, and the dark plates on his arms prevent the blue from turning him into one uninterrupted glowing block. The horns and shoulder spikes seem to grow from the same frozen body.

That is why it beats ordinary armored Alistar. The material changes the whole creature, not just the equipment strapped to his shoulders. The violet accents also break up the colder blues without introducing a second costume idea.

There is more here than splash art: the current skin definition assigns its own spell visual resources and sound bank, and its animation set includes a dedicated recall. It keeps the base voice performance, so the transformation doesn’t extend to a new speaking character.

Riot’s February 2020 PBE announcement listed the Blackfrost skins at 1,350 RP, subject to change. Between Blackfrost and Elderwood, choose based on whether you want a threatening ice creature or a forest giant with some warmth to him. Don’t expect much of Alistar’s goofy side to survive the ice.

    4. Matador Alistar

Matador Alistar wears a short gold-embroidered bullfighter jacket and holds a red flower beside his nose ring in an arena.
The gold jacket and carefully held flower turn the bull into the arena’s showman.

Matador gives Alistar both sides of the bullfight. He has the horns and the formal jacket, then the splash adds a tiny flower held next to that massive muzzle. It’s a vain, theatrical costume on an animal whose hands look far too large for delicate gestures.

This is the best alternative when you like the idea of a funny Alistar but don’t want to dress him as a stuffed toy. The gold embroidery makes him look overdressed rather than helpless, and the cropped jacket lets the body remain recognizably his.

The limitation is concrete: Matador’s current files retain the base sound banks and animation set. There is no cowbell-style custom dance or dedicated recall to accompany the outfit.

Even with that smaller feature list, Matador ranks above Hextech. The bull pretending to be a bullfighter has more personality than another impressive machine.

    5. Hextech Alistar

Hextech Alistar is a bronze and dark-purple mechanical bull with curved metal horns and blue crystals in his shoulders and wrists.
The bulky wrists and inset blue crystals make the arms look engineered for demolition.

Hextech understands the shape it is rebuilding. Alistar’s huge forearms become mechanical housings, the horns curve like worked metal, and the blue crystals sit inside the body rather than floating around an otherwise normal bull. Bronze gives the machinery a warmth that Blackfrost deliberately avoids.

Its extras are substantial. Riot Nurse Flan’s March 2018 developer post specified new effects and sounds for all spells, plus recall, dance and death animations. The current animation files retain those skin-specific sequences. A new dance does not mean it uses Moo Cow’s cowbell, however; these are different cosmetic packages.

What holds Hextech back is the face. The angular muzzle and mechanical construction are impressive, but they replace much of the expressive animal that makes Matador and Moo Cow funny. Choose it when you specifically want a machine, not because a crafting skin ought to outrank an ordinary costume.

Riot’s March 2018 release announcement offered crafting for 10 Gemstones. That is old acquisition information: patch 12.6 replaced Gemstones with Mythic Essence in 2022. Check the current client for an offer instead of treating 10 Gemstones as a price you can still pay.

    6. Lunar Beast Alistar

Lunar Beast Alistar has a thick white mane and beard, a red padded jacket and golden wrist guards in a lantern-lit street.
The white beard and padded red jacket give him the air of an enormous festival chaperone.

Lunar Beast dresses Alistar as the grown-up who has been left in charge of the celebration. The thick white mane and beard do most of that work; the red jacket and gold accents keep him festive rather than austere. His horns still extend well beyond the clothes, so the outfit never swallows the animal entirely.

It is a good everyday costume if Moo Cow is too much of a gag and the elemental skins are too far from Alistar. The bulky jacket is also its weak point. His shoulders are already enormous, and extra padding doesn’t create as interesting a shape as Hextech’s constructed arms.

The actual effects make the festival theme more complete. Riot DW Platypus’s final PBE update specifically added firework particles to Pulverize and Unbreakable Will. The original post also documented new VFX, SFX and a recall. That’s a better reason to consider Lunar Beast than the mere fact that a bull fits an Ox Clan story.

    7. SKT T1 Alistar

SKT T1 Alistar appears in the upper-right of the team splash with an orange beard, white boxing gloves and a navy-and-gold uniform.
Alistar is the orange-bearded boxer above the right side of the team lineup.

The white boxing gloves are the best part of SKT T1 Alistar. They turn his giant fists into sports equipment without hiding his size, and the orange beard gives the uniform something more memorable than a crest on the chest. Of the two tournament skins here, this one has the more approachable personality.

It honors Wolf’s Alistar at the 2015 World Championship, not an unrelated SKT roster. In the 2016 developer announcements, Riot described the players’ involvement in designing the recalls; Aotus specifically listed Alistar’s new model, particles and thumbs-up recall. That small gesture suits the friendly boxer better than another aggressive ground smash would.

The team colors are an unavoidable part of the purchase decision. If you have no attachment to SKT or Wolf, Lunar Beast offers a similarly dressed-up bull with a more self-contained theme. If you do, the recall and gloves give you more to enjoy than the name alone. The commemoration does not establish a current shop window.

    8. Conqueror Alistar

Conqueror Alistar wears dark plate armor with gold trim and a horned gold helmet, with red crystal accents around his fists.
The curved gold helmet turns the head into another piece of ceremonial armor.

Conqueror is the tournament skin for someone who prefers the trophy to the team jersey. The gold around the face looks ceremonial, while the black armor and red accents stop it from becoming a solid gilded bull. It is more imposing than SKT T1, but less endearing.

Riot KiWiKiD’s PBE description documented new spell visuals and a recall built around smashing through to obtain a trophy. Smashing his way to the prize is a suitably unsubtle way for Alistar to celebrate.

The skin commemorates MSI 2019. Riot Aether’s event announcement set a 975 RP offer from April 30 to June 11, 2019. That window is historical, not a schedule for the next return.

Conqueror is the better armored choice than Marauder because it has a purpose beyond looking dangerous. SKT T1 wins this comparison because its exposed face and white gloves give the bull more personality.

    9. Longhorn Alistar

Longhorn Alistar wears a feathered cowboy hat, fringed vest and red bandana, with a large revolver holstered at his waist.
The western outfit is squeezed around a body that has no business fitting into ordinary cowboy clothes.

Longhorn is a bull dressed as a cowboy, which puts it in the same useful category of animal-related nonsense as Matador. The hat has to coexist with the horns, the fringed vest barely addresses his chest, and the splash’s oversized holstered revolver still looks small beside his hands.

Matador wins because its contradiction is sharper. The bullfighter’s careful showmanship clashes with Alistar’s body; the cowboy outfit mostly makes him look like the largest person in the saloon. That is still more character than a different fur color provides.

Expect the base audio and animation package, not a new gun attack or western recall. The hat and fringe need to sell you on this one.

    10. Infernal Alistar

Infernal Alistar has red-orange fur, dark armor and bright yellow-orange edges on his horns amid flames.
Dark armor keeps the hot orange fur and horns from filling the entire silhouette.

Infernal makes the bull look furious before he does anything. The red-orange fur and hot horn edges are an effective combination, especially against the dark armor. It is a direct, uncomplicated choice for someone who wants a more demonic Alistar without turning him into an ice sculpture or machine.

Infernal’s name promises more than its small feature list delivers. Its current definition assigns a skin-specific Pulverize visual resource, but retains the base sound banks. Its recall and dance use the base sequences. Don’t read the flaming splash as proof of a full new fire-themed ability and audio set.

Infernal ranks here because the colors work, not because the most aggressive illustration must be the most elaborate skin. Blackfrost does a more complete job of changing Alistar into an elemental creature.

    11. Sweeper Alistar

Sweeper Alistar crouches in the foreground in a blue-and-white soccer uniform, with a ball to his left and other players behind him.
Alistar is the huge player at the front, low to the grass as the ball comes across.

The absurdity of Alistar on a soccer field is enough to make Sweeper pleasant. A sports shirt on that torso looks stretched to its limit, and his heavy mane makes him stand out from the teammates in the shared splash. He looks like he could occupy half the penalty area by himself.

SKT T1 gets more out of a similar idea. Boxing gloves give the fists a new purpose; Sweeper mainly gives the bull a uniform. Its current files retain the base audio and animations, so the soccer setting does not come with a dedicated sporting recall. Its best audience is someone who wants a soccer costume, not someone looking for a new set of Alistar emotes.

    12. Marauder Alistar

Marauder Alistar fills the right side in layered dark armor and a spiked helmet, raising an armored fist above a warrior on the left.
The helmet conceals most of the face, leaving spikes and armor to define the character.

Marauder nearly buries the bull. The helmet, shoulder plates and huge gauntlets create a brutal armored shape, with white hair and red fur showing through the gaps. If you actively dislike Alistar’s expressive muzzle, that concealment may be exactly the attraction.

It is also why the skin sits this low. Conqueror decorates the face; Marauder makes it difficult to appreciate at all. The spikes repeat the same threatening idea across every major body part, where Hextech uses the arms, horns and torso as different parts of a machine.

The base sounds and animation set are retained. With no new recall to consider, the decision comes down to whether you want that much of Alistar hidden.

    13. Black Alistar Modern

Black Alistar Modern has dark fur, pale blue-gray hair, green eyes and a purple square nose ring against a teal background.
The newer edition gives the familiar composition a cool palette and green accents.

Black Alistar Modern keeps the old bare-chested, long-horned appearance, then moves it toward cool gray, purple and green. The pale hair is a useful contrast against the dark body. It is a restrained option, but the pose and outfit don’t provide the reinvention the word Modern might suggest.

There are some actual effects differences. The current definition assigns skin-specific visuals to his abilities while retaining the base audio and animation set. It has more cosmetic changes than the original, but no new voice performance or recall.

The collector distinction is essential. Riot’s 2026 Classic Collector’s Box page lists Black Alistar Modern Skin separately from the Classic Alistar (Founder’s Black) Classic Chroma. The latter belongs to Classic; Modern is its own skin in the current PC catalog. Neither name should be used as shorthand for the original preorder reward at number 16.

Patch 26.18 combines Classic Skin Chromas with their associated Base Skins and grants the base skin to players who purchased only a chroma. Read this as a change to the paired Classic product. Riot does not announce the original Black Alistar preorder reward as returning to sale.

    14. Golden Alistar

Golden Alistar has yellow-gold fur, a white mohawk, dark horns and a blue square nose ring, with chains across his arms.
Golden changes the fur color, not Alistar into a suit of gold armor.

Golden has one straightforward advantage: the bright fur makes the dark horns and blue metal details contrast sharply. It preserves the familiar face and body instead of covering them with a helmet. Among the simplest versions of Alistar, it is cheerful without being a joke costume.

There isn’t much beyond that palette. It keeps the standard sounds, recall and dance, and the outfit supplies little new character. If you like yellow more than you like any of the costumes above, that is enough. Otherwise, the difference is too small to be the first recommendation.

    15. Unchained Alistar

Unchained Alistar spreads his arms beneath long gold horns, wearing spiked bracers over blue-purple fur against a snowy backdrop.
Blue-purple fur and gold horns give the familiar bull a brighter contrast.

Unchained has a handsome color pairing, especially where the long gold horns frame the blue-purple head. The collar and spiked bracers make him look harsher, but not different enough to establish a character on the level of the cowboy or matador. It also retains the base sounds and animations.

The practical warning is about old instructions, not the costume. Riot once offered Unchained through a YouTube promotion. In the 2018 retirement notice, Riot support writer Isto explained that the social promotion and final redemption route would end on August 1, 2018. Following the old channel or requesting that retired giveaway is not a current acquisition method.

    16. Black Alistar

Original Black Alistar has black fur, pale horns, orange eyes and a gold square nose ring against a red background.
The original edition uses warm orange and gold accents, unlike Black Alistar Modern’s cooler treatment.

Black Alistar has a forceful, simple look: dark hide, pale horns and warm accents. It leaves the champion recognizable, but so do Golden and Unchained. The original uses the base audio and animations, and it offers much less visual invention than the skins at the top.

Its place in League history is a separate matter. Riot’s current collection description identifies it as the reward for players who preordered the Digital Collector’s Edition. That history may mean more to an owner than a cowbell or a forest transformation. It does not make the costume itself more elaborate.

If you own the original, enjoy the original. If you’re considering a present-day offer with Black Alistar in its name, read the full label: the old skin, Black Alistar Modern and the Classic-only Founder’s Black chroma are not interchangeable entitlements.
