5 Best Supports for Vayne to Survive Lane and Scale

Milio is Vayne's best default support on Patch 26.17. Compare Soraka, Nami, Braum, and Lulu for lane survival, Condemn angles, and three-item fights.

    Riot Games

Vayne can lose lane without dying. If she has spent half her health to collect two waves, used Tumble every time a spell crossed the minions, and fired Condemn just to stop the support walking forward, the lane is already in debt. The scoreboard stays clean while the next cannon wave becomes impossible to approach.

Vayne hunting through a dark Demacian forest

Milio is the best support for Vayne on Patch 26.17 when champion select offers no other clue. Cozy Campfire extends the distance from which she can attack, Warm Hugs moves her out of a threatened line, Ultra Mega Fire Kick rejects the first entry, and Breath of Life can remove crowd control after it lands. He protects Vayne’s route into the fight as well as the fight itself.

The default changes with the bill the enemy lane is trying to collect. Soraka repairs repeated poke. Nami helps Vayne contest a short trade instead of absorbing it. Braum blocks the direction an engage must cross. Lulu turns one committed diver into a harmless target long enough for Vayne to reposition. None of them fixes every draft, and a famous late-game duo can still be wrong before the loading screen.

Riot changed Vayne on Patch 26.17. Her rank-one Tumble cost rose from 30 mana to 46, while rank-one Silver Bolts fell from 6% to 4% maximum-health true damage and from 50 to 40 minimum damage. Base health and regeneration improved, but their per-level growth fell. The patch was aimed more at top lane, yet the early Q and W changes still make wasteful bot-lane trades easier to punish.

Vayne’s survival budget is more than health

Health is the visible part of the budget. A short-range ADC will take some damage for minions, but the support decides whether the same enemy spell also controls the brush and the next last hit. Soraka can restore health after that exchange. Nami can make the exchange hurt both lanes. Milio may let Vayne collect the minion from farther away so the spell never lands.

Wave access matters just as much. Vayne has no long-range waveclear spell that repairs a bad state from safety. When an enemy Caitlyn and Lux stack a wave, the support cannot wander into river and assume Vayne’s late game covers the loss. The support must help thin the wave, threaten the line from which the next spell arrives, or concede the right minions early enough to protect the turret dive.

Tumble is also part of the account. Using Q to attack can create a Silver Bolts window, but using it to dodge may be the only way Vayne reaches the next wave alive. Patch 26.17 made careless early casts more expensive. A support who shields after the projectile lands has not saved the same resource as a support who moves Vayne before the cast or knocks the attacker away.

Condemn is the emergency reserve. It can knock one champion out of attack range or stun that champion against terrain. Once it is gone, the opposing engage can walk into the lane knowing Vayne has only Tumble and support help left. The best partner creates enough space for Vayne to hold E for the champion or angle that actually decides the play.

Milio buys reach without spending Condemn

Milio travelling with his fuemigos through Ixtal

Milio is the complete default because his basic lane answer starts before Vayne takes damage. Cozy Campfire increases allied attack range inside its zone and follows the ally nearest the cast point. Vayne can hit the front target without taking the extra step that puts her inside a hook or point-blank engage. Warm Hugs adds movement speed and a shield, so she can leave the threatened strip of lane while keeping Tumble available.

The clean defensive order begins with the enemy’s route. If a melee support walks around the wave, Milio holds Ultra Mega Fire Kick until that champion crosses the point where a knockback breaks the engage. Vayne keeps Condemn for a second entrant or for the wall stun after the first champion has committed. Spending both displacements on the same harmless approach leaves the duo with no answer to the jungler arriving behind it.

Milio also carries the pairing through grouped fights. Extra range lets Vayne keep Silver Bolts on one legal target instead of changing targets whenever the front line steps forward. Breath of Life can remove crowd control from allies in range, but it cannot erase displacement or repair a Vayne who Tumbled into fog. The ultimate is a second chance after a catch, not permission to enter from a losing angle.

Two current data views point the same way. METAsrc’s Patch 26.17 all-rank Vayne ADC page and RiftMind’s 26.15 to 26.17 high-elo window both place Milio among her most productive support partners. The exact filters and samples are recorded in sources.md; the moving percentages stay out of the article.

The lane cost is weak control of the wave. Milio cannot clear a stacked wave or force two ranged opponents out of the brushes by himself. If mid and jungle also offer no first move, Vayne may survive until three items and still have no safe target to attack. Lock Milio when another role can begin the fight or when the enemy must enter a readable front-to-back lane.

Against poke, choose repair or retaliation

Soraka keeps the next wave playable

Soraka calling starlight down onto the Rift

Soraka is the pure health answer. Starcall slows an enemy and restores Soraka’s health when it hits a champion. Astral Infusion converts that health into another attempt for Vayne to approach the wave. Against repeated, dodgeable poke, the pair can lose one exchange without surrendering every minion that follows.

Soraka still has to contest space. She needs a separate angle for Starcall so one Lux E, Zyra root, or Seraphine cast cannot pressure both champions. Vayne stays close enough to receive the heal but far enough away that an engage cannot reach two targets with one spell. If Soraka never contests a lane pocket, the enemy can attack her health bar first and remove the healing engine.

Equinox gives the duo a way to defend a narrow approach. The silence zone interrupts a champion who needs another spell to complete the engage, and it roots enemies who remain when the zone expires. Condemn can ruin that delayed root by knocking the target out of the area. Vayne should either push the champion deeper into the zone, wait for the root, or use E because immediate distance matters more than the follow-up.

Soraka fits lanes that win by repeated chip rather than one clean hook. She becomes risky when the enemy can cross distance from beyond Starcall range or when the draft has several ways to reach both back-line champions at once.

Nami makes the short trade cost something

Nami summoning a wave with her staff

Nami is the better poke answer when Vayne must fight for space rather than only recover it. Ebb and Flow can damage an enemy and heal an ally in the same exchange. Tidecaller’s Blessing adds damage and a slow to Vayne’s attacks and spells, while Surging Tides grants movement speed when Nami’s abilities touch an ally.

The lane pattern starts when the enemy ADC walks up for a last hit. Nami empowers Vayne before the step, Vayne attacks once, and the slow creates room for a second shot or a safer retreat. Tumble should move her across the attack line rather than directly toward the enemy support. Stop after the second shot if chasing the Silver Bolts proc would open an engage. The short trade has already made the opponent pay for Vayne’s access to the minion.

Aqua Prison is much easier after a slow or Tidal Wave than against a freely moving target. If bubble lands, Vayne can walk toward a Condemn angle while the target is controlled. Firing E immediately may push the target away before the rest of the lane can follow. Nami gives more offensive tempo than Soraka, but she repairs less health over a long, quiet siege.

Choose Nami when the lane can be contested in short windows and the team still benefits from a long-range wave to start or interrupt fights. Choose Soraka when merely preserving Vayne’s access to minions is already winning the matchup.

Against engage, Braum protects one direction

Braum holding his shield in the Freljord

Braum is the support for a lane or draft whose important access travels through projectiles. Unbreakable intercepts projectiles, destroys them after they hit him, cancels the damage from the first attack that reaches the shield, and reduces later damage from that direction. Stand Behind Me lets him jump to Vayne or a nearby ally and grants defenses after he arrives.

That protection changes where Vayne may stand. She can keep a wall close enough for Condemn while Braum occupies the open line. If the enemy hook or first damage spell comes through him, Vayne has time to Tumble across the fight instead of spending Q before the target enters attack range.

Concussive Blows supplies the offensive link. Braum’s basic attack or Winter’s Bite applies the first stack, and allied basic attacks can build toward the four-stack stun. Vayne wants consecutive attacks on one target for Silver Bolts anyway. The two passives reward the same target discipline, but Condemn can eject that target before either payoff arrives. Unless a wall stun is available or Vayne needs distance immediately, let the Braum stun complete before using E.

The pairing has a clear failure case into two long-range champions. Braum can block one direction but cannot restore Vayne’s health or force a mage out of every brush. His Patch 26.17 results also change by rank scope in the transparent sources, which is another reason to treat him as a projectile and engage specialist rather than the universal answer.

Against one diver, Lulu changes the target

Lulu casting fae magic beside Pix

Lulu offers the sharpest answer when one champion must reach Vayne for the enemy draft to work. Whimsy can grant Vayne attack speed and movement speed during a safe damage window. The same spell can polymorph an enemy so that champion cannot attack or cast. Help, Pix shields Vayne and lets Pix aid her attacks. Wild Growth adds health, knocks up nearby enemies, and surrounds the enlarged ally with a slowing aura.

The support has to choose before the dive lands. If Vayne already has room to attack, ally-cast Whimsy can accelerate Silver Bolts and help her move with Night Hunter. If the enemy assassin is still holding the entry spell, spending Whimsy as a buff removes Lulu’s most reliable denial. The correct cast depends on whether Vayne needs more damage or needs the diver to stop functioning.

Polymorph also creates a Condemn angle. Vayne can use the control window to move sideways until terrain sits behind the target. She should not fire E automatically and push the harmless critter back to safety. Wild Growth follows a similar rule: knockup and the slow field buy time for Vayne to choose the next position, while Condemn is saved for the exit or the second threat.

Vayne and Lulu can concede too much lane space together. Vayne has no ranged waveclear, Glitterlance alone does not quickly remove a stacked wave, and Lulu cannot heal repeated poke. Their most decisive tools also wait for an enemy to enter. That weakness matters enough to challenge the pairing even though it remains one of Vayne’s most common statistical partners.

Condemn turns support synergy into spell order

Condemn is not a hook that becomes correct as soon as it is available. It changes the target’s position, so every allied ground effect, delayed stun, and follow-up range has to be judged again after the knockback. The wall stun is powerful, but immediate distance can be worth more when the enemy jungler arrives through open lane.

With Milio, decide which knockback is first. Ultra Mega Fire Kick can cancel the initial entry while Vayne preserves Condemn for the champion who continues forward. If a terrain stun is already lined up, Vayne fires first and Milio holds Q for the next body. Two players guessing at once can send the same target in opposite directions and waste both defensive spells.

With Soraka, watch Equinox. A target who remains in the zone will be rooted when it expires, so an open-lane Condemn may rescue that target. With Nami, use Tidecaller’s slow, Aqua Prison, or Tidal Wave to narrow movement before Vayne commits to the angle. The support creates time; Vayne decides whether the wall is reachable.

With Braum, the four-stack stun and Silver Bolts both reward continued attacks on the same champion. Condemn is the emergency break in that sequence. With Lulu, polymorph gives Vayne time to walk rather than roll blindly. These pairings improve E because they give Vayne a choice. A support who demands Condemn as the first layer every time leaves her exposed when the real engage begins.

The support’s job changes at each item transition

Vayne can still be caught, outranged, or denied a target after three completed items. Each purchase makes uninterrupted attack time matter more, so the support gradually moves from protecting access to the wave toward protecting access to one champion.

Before one item, protect the route to minions

The support stays connected to the wave. A roam after a bad crash can leave Vayne facing a freeze she cannot break, and short range makes walking into two opponents especially expensive. Soraka and Nami manage health through this stage. Braum and Milio deny the line an engage needs. Lulu holds her denial spell until the enemy actually commits.

The pair should plan the recall before health or mana forces it. Vayne’s higher early Tumble cost means four unnecessary Q casts can change whether the next wave is playable. Giving up one caster minion to preserve the spell and recall timing is cheaper than spending the entire survival budget to protect a perfect score.

Around two items, protect the route to the fight

The bottom turret may be gone, but Vayne is not automatically safe in a long side lane. Her support should help establish vision through the lane swap and give her a route into the next objective without crossing a dark river first. Leaving Vayne to catch one more distant wave can delay the group or force her to enter through the same choke the enemy controls.

At this stage, Nami’s Tidal Wave and Braum’s Glacial Fissure can shape the entrance. Milio can preserve range once teams meet. Soraka must arrive healthy enough to spend Astral Infusion, and Lulu must decide which enemy cooldown makes Whimsy defensive. The support is no longer defending every minion. The support is defending the path between income and the next coordinated play.

At three items, protect target uptime

Vayne now has more damage invested in every second she can remain on one target. Swapping repeatedly delays Silver Bolts, while chasing the back line can move her outside every support spell. The support should make the nearest legal target safe to hit instead of demanding that Vayne Tumble through the front line for a highlight.

Milio extends the firing boundary. Lulu shuts down the first champion who crosses it. Braum makes one projectile lane safe. Nami slows the fight so Vayne can move with it, and Soraka keeps her health high enough to survive the next rotation. Their abilities did not change at three items. The value of one uninterrupted attack window did.

Vayne and Lulu appears often because the kit fit is real. Their attack-speed, movement, shield, polymorph, bonus-health, and anti-dive tools all gain impact when Vayne has items. Current Patch 26.17 and rolling-window data also give the pairing a large enough sample to take seriously.

The duo is wrong when the lane must answer long-range wave control and repeated poke. Lulu can shield one exchange but cannot heal the next five, and Vayne cannot clear a stacked wave from outside spell range. Soraka may preserve more minions by repairing health. Nami may stop the opponents from taking every short trade for free.

Lulu also fails drafts with no first move. She can make Vayne stronger and stop a diver, but she cannot guarantee an accessible target across an open objective setup. Milio has a similar composition problem. If top, jungle, and mid all wait for someone else to begin, another scaling enchanter may preserve Vayne until a fight that never starts on favorable terms.

Use Lulu when a specific diver has to be denied and the lane can reach its item transitions without losing the map. Do not lock the pairing solely because it appears often beside Vayne in a synergy table.

The verdict after the budget is counted

Milio is RiftBrain’s default because he saves defensive movement, extends attack range, and keeps relevant tools after lane. Soraka is the answer to a health budget drained by repeated poke. Nami is better when Vayne can contest short trades and needs help moving the fight. Braum is the specialist for projectiles and a readable engage direction. Lulu is the strongest answer to one committed diver.

The support choice should change the first unaffordable expense. If the wave will be stacked, protect access to it. If Condemn is being forced before the real engage, add another denial tool. If Vayne can reach three items but cannot reach a target, draft a first move elsewhere or choose a support who shapes the approach. Scaling only matters when the composition can deliver Vayne to the fight with something left in the account.
